Stefan Stanislawski

Co-Founder

Stefan has an unusual and wide-ranging background combining telecom strategy consulting, telecom finance and also being a start-up entrepreneur in broadband (three times in fibre, once in wireless). As a result, he has a wide perspective of the industry, of its economics and also a wide range of contacts in the operational, financial, regulatory and technical communities.

Formerly, as a consultant, Stefan spent over 25 years in the telecom industry helping boards, senior managers and regulators to make critical decisions in both fixed and mobile telecoms.

His work has encompassed all aspects of telecommunications strategy, business development and litigation as well as participating in some $100 billion worth of telecom financings or acquisitions.

FIBRE BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

• Developed and managed a new open access fibre project working with London’s most prestigious great Estate.
• Drove the deal, commercial strategy, service providers and propositions generating excellent take-up.
  In Durban and Costa Rica Fibre Operator fibre start-ups, working with local developers Stefan helped define, de-risk and guide the start-up of two new operators with a real estate focus. One is a closed network initially, the other is fully open access from the start.

OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE

• As a co-Founder of a Swedish active layer operator, Stefan secured 80% of the company’s contracts in its first 3 years.
  This involved developing fibre projects and long term build and operate contracts with investors on three continents.
• Turnaround CEO, Zybor plc: Brought in as trouble shooter by the Chairman of a mobile marketing bureau. Drastically rescued cash burn rate and set new course.
• Head of Spectrum and New Licences, Nordisk Mobiltelefon AB: Niche targeted mobile operator in the 450MHz band in five countries.

FIBRE INDUSTRY ROLES

• Stefan’s landmark report (sponsored by FTTH Council Europe) re how to stimulate €270 billion of investment in fibre access started the modern policy debate about incentives, separation etc. The report influenced national & EU policies.
• Member of FTTH Council MENA Regulatory and Policy Committee.
• As part of the design of the Connecting Europe Broadband Fund, Stefan advised the European Commission on the optimal investment approach and financial instruments for early stage broadband projects.
  

OTHER RELEVANT ACHIEVEMENTS

• We created the financial, strategic and political case for the creation of the world’s first Gigabit FTTH network for a complete territory. This included estimating not only costs and CAPEX in detail but also the subsequent operational savings (which we later tracked) and the economic stimulus and multiplier effects for the economy.
• First consultant recruited to Analysys. Built the finance practice into the industry leader covering ~$100billion of deals and auctions.
• Start-up technology investor.
